St Peter’s was established in 1999 from the amalgamation of three Roman Catholic High Schools. A new school was built at Belle Vue and the new building was opened by Bishop Brain in March 2003.
In a short period of time St Peter’s has established itself as one of the leading schools in Manchester. Examination results have improved year on year and are now above national averages and amongst the highest in Manchester. In November 2009 Ofsted described St Peter’s as “an outstanding school, where students from a wide range of backgrounds achieve well.” The inspectors judged the curriculum, care guidance and support, the school’s capacity to keep improving and the leadership of the school to be outstanding.
St Peter’s is a Roman Catholic High School founded on gospel values. Pupils are encouraged to live their faith and to lead purposeful lives. The school regularly raises funds for charity: at Christmas a cheque for £1050 was taken by pupils to Cornerstone, Manchester’s charity for the homeless.
